Current `sources.list` entries?

After over-draining the batteries (twice!) a few years ago, I finally ordered and installed the protected battery boards and now I’m trying to get the Reform caught up on three-plus years of updates.

But, when I run sudo apt update, I’m getting an error on the mntre debian repo. (I hand-typed all the messages in this post, so please understand that I might have made transcription mistakes.)

From browsing around the forums, it looks like my apt sources are out of date (should be pointing to reform-debian-repo? but when I tried to swap that in, I got the same error), but I can’t quite see how I need to fix this and I couldn’t seem to find a current sources.list example anywhere.

My /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ folder is empty. Here is my sources.list file:

deb https://ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main
deb https://mntre.com/reform-debian sid/

I think that this configuration is original to what it was when I got the Reform in 2021, but of course I could be forgetting something.

Hello @salsaalibi welcome back!

There are multiple problems. One is that yes, the repository URL changed. A sources line for the current one should look like this:

deb [trusted=yes] https://mntre.com/reform-debian-repo reform main

But the other problem is that your system has not been upgraded for four years. This is skipping two Debian stable releases and you are not upgrading Debian stable but Debian unstable. This might work but is likely to fail in one way or the other because nobody is testing this sort of upgrade scenario and even if they would, we do not have the volunteer time in Debian to support this kind of situation. So you will likely run into errors that you’ll have to fix and that might become hairy. Are you sure that you want to upgrade your existing installation instead of just backup up all your data and starting over from scratch?

Yeah, that’s sensible advice. The updated source line that you provided did work, but I’m seeing other problems, as you predicted. I’ll back up my home folder and start over with a fresh image.

Thank you for helping!
