love it! I used a bunch of q-tips to just put it together to test and they have been in there for a month now.
Hahah I did exactly this as well!
This is such a useful and downright cool mod!
I did this using the battery holder by josch, as well as batteries from the amazon vendor linked in the first post. Works great. Also, the balance is better with a heavier base. Thanks ![]()
I just bought a couple 706090 batteries, which are 1mm thicker than the stock 606090 units. Those will fit with the brackets that came with the device, too. It’s only a cumulative 2000mAh boost, though, so I’m not expecting 10 hours!
Just want to check here in case I do something stupid. I was thinking of getting a pair of these to fit into my Pocket Reform when it arrives.
I think this is what I need. But can I confirm that I won’t need to do any soldering to fit this? I have no experience of soldering and would like to avoid it if possible.
You will either need to solder on pigtails with JST PH2 connectors, or you will need to get a crimp tool and a JST connector kit. Both options are relatively inexpensive to get going, are easy to learn how to do, and can be tried out on scrap wires before the real deal. I went the crimp route because I already had the tool and equipment from a previous project.
If you are worried, look for a local makerspace and see if you can get help there to learn how to do either correctly.
Thanks for that, it’s a big help. I think I’ll go down the crimping route. I’ve just had a look into it and that seems simple enough with a little practice.
Crimping or soldering cables together are both easy tasks which I think one can learn just by watching some videos online, for example.
The one thing that you must make absolutely never happens is that the two cables (plus and minus) of the battery touch. Best make sure that while you are working on the cable have at least one of the two always covered in some tape.
The idea to first practice on other cables until you feel confident is a very good one I think.
