Is there a future with intel for mnt devices?

Production after the successful completion of a crowd sourcing campaign. However, when the orders are out, the limiting factor to production is component supply issues.

This is another reason why MNT has several new things in the oven. The main source of revenue is coming off of crowdsourcing campaigns.

I just want MNT to be around for as long as they want to be. I think x86 could be one possible avenue to seeing that happen. Not the only avenue though, and that is a good thing.

I will also admit that it is possible to see the RK3385 in a way that invalidates the x86 argument. But x86 also brings established low power states and makes hibernation once gain possible. Two things that are missing from all MNT products currently. (One caveat being that the big Reform with the imx8 CAN suspend, but it is sadly not that reliable.)

I’m not worry about this, I have seem same level of “company” in Japan(I would prefer call them workshop) as MNT Research last for several decade till now because they focus on a niche market and provide quality product.

Is that not possible with RK3588 or imx8m plus?

That remains to be seen but there is hope for it. The original i.mx8 can suspend quite well, but it is not perfect. What we are doing on the Pocket is effectually shutting down as much stuff as we can without crashing the system. It has proven to be pretty effective. Instead of cutting half the power like suspend on the Reform with the i.MX8 does it saves about 1/3rd or 2/5ths the power.

If the RK is able to suspend I have no doubts that Josch and MNT and the MNT community will discover and harness it.

Rather than amd64, I actually would like to see MNT Research explore other architectures like RISC-V or Power9 cpu. Laptop market outside amd64 is like a giant blue sea that has plenty of gold to dig up.
