A dream: MNT Pocket Reform with a Strix Halo Chip

I was quite excited to see that Frame.work built a desktop using the new Strix Halo chip: Framework | Order a Framework Desktop with AMD Ryzen™ AI Max 300. You can use the system ram as Video memory on these chips. You can get up to 196 GB of memory on these chips, which means you can run enormous models.

A MNT Pocket Reform with this chip could be a personal AI assistant, running voice recognition and probably Deep Seek (or whatever better model will be out by then).

Just a thought rabbit. What do you guys think? What would be the problems with integrating this chip with a MNT Pocket Reform?

That’s with a huge heatsink and 120mm fan to dissipate 100+ Watts of heat. This is not possible in the form factor of the pocket reform.

Ah! No such thing as a free lunch. Thanks!

That chip has a hard limit of 128GB of RAM, not 196GB. I think you can dedicate up to 96GB to the GPU. Though I think I read linux can dedicate up to 112GB.

If you want it in a mobile package the ROG Z13 looks pretty sweet. ROG Flow Z13 (2025) GZ302 | Gaming laptops|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG Global. It won’t have quite the performance the Framework desktop will have being in a mobile package but should still shred.

Yeah, I saw that one too. It doesn’t have the mnt chonk I want, nor the repairability.

Maybe just having a portable case for this printed. Of course, you need a massive power supply, etc.

Oh well, one can dream.
