"Compact" Mode? (for pocket)

I am viewing these forums on a pocket reform with Firefox — all default settings — and I’d be willing to give up some padding to fit more text/topics on the screen, rather like gmail’s “compact” mode. Does anyone else think similarly?

So far I’ve tried selecting “smallest” text size in my Discourse UI preferences and zooming Firefox out to 80% on MNT Community, which persists. This is pretty decent already; gets me about 8 topics visible and legible in the “latest” view on fullscreen (sway) and 6 with the window manager and browser chrome enabled.

However, by comparison, I can see 10 emails threads in Firefox, full screen, no zoom-out, from the Fastmail web app inbox. I tried searching for Discourse UI customizations and found this discussion — summarizing, admins can add a custom “theme component” that trims some padding without having to add copy-pasted CSS (see post number 6).

Can we get a “compact” custom theme along these lines? I am using dark mode and love it, thank you for putting that together. I understand if you don’t want to proliferate custom themes beyond light/dark.

I know MNT staff is super busy, so if I drafted a compact theme component would you be willing to try it out? I would use the Discourse Theme Creator to ensure compatibility.
