I know you might not have good answers right now, or any answers at all for that matter, but I was curious if you had a sense of what we can expect w/r/t Crowd Supply outstanding orders and the ongoing tariff situation. I’m in the US, and I expected the tariffs to be bad, so when I made my order I expected the final price to go up to handle the tariffs – do you expect that to actually be what happens?
Is this something I should be asking Crowd Supply directly instead of here?
A message posted late Friday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection included a long list of products that would not face the reciprocal tariffs President Trump imposed in recent days on Chinese goods as part of a worsening trade war. Apart from smartphones and laptop computers, the exclusions would also apply to transistors and semiconductors, which are largely not made in the United States.
A couple of notes about this (I work at Crowd Supply but am not commenting in any official capacity here):
Thankfully MNT products are, by and large, marked COO Germany (country of origin), not China.
I’m really hopeful these HS codes remain exempt because MNT computers are sold under one of them (specifically 8471). But we’re all learning this stuff as we go along, and the abrupt changes have been incredibly stressful. I assume we’re not off the roller coaster yet, not by a long shot.
Thank you so much for chiming in – I totally understand that this is all changing literally daily, and nobody knows anything. I’m less nervous about spending more money on my MNT device, and more just wanting to know how much it’ll cost. I support you all in getting through this whole mess, including financially.
