External Video settings

I’ve been enjoying my Pocket Reform, but I have a question about external video.

I can hook up an external monitor via HDMI, and some of the time, it works with no problem. However, sometimes, it defaults to 640x480, and I don’t know where to try to set the system to use a larger (1280x800, 2048x1152) screen. (or projector)

It seems that if the monitor is DVI, with a cable to go to HDMI, it gets tripped up, but my older projector with HDMI input, right to the Pocket via HDMI fails as well.

I’d like to be able to set this, and with an interface that is hot-plug, like HDMI, there’s usually a control panel or key sequence to change those settings. Of course, editing a file to change them would be fine, but I have no idea where to look for this one.

Any ideas?

I have still not connected an external monitor to my Pocket, but if I did I would use something like wdisplays to configure resolution, position, rotation and so on (just run that command).

If it is not available you can install it by apt-get install wdisplays.

Thanks, I was able to install, and that’s the kind of thing I was looking for.

I did, however find the wlr-randr command from another thread (right after I posted this) I’ve run into the limited resolutions available, it’s a shame because I have a 1280x800 projector that I was thinking about using for presentations, and since I run the Pocket’s internal screen at 1.5x, it would be a nice match, but alas, that output doesn’t appear to be on the list.

The wdisplays program does make it much easier to go through the different modes, to try to find a decent fit though, so it’s very useful nonetheless.

Just one more strange thing: A monitor that I have is a Samsung that is 2048x1152, which is still 16x9, and I can’t seem to get it to use 1920x1080. Neither wdisplays, nor wlr-randr seem to let me set it. The best it will do is 1280x960.
