Liberux smartphone

I recently stumbled across the Liberux NEXX smartphone, currently in crowdfunding. I think it gives off strong “MNT Reform” vibes: powered by the RK3588 family chip and features modular storage, RAM, modem, as well as physical kill switches for the camera, mic, wireless.

The stock OS is a flavour of Debian, but I have hopes that Genode Sculpt will support it (along with the Pinephone it already runs on). Like Reform (and Genode), Liberux is also an EU based firm, in this case hailing from Madrid, Spain.

Fairphone 6 seems like it get postmarketOS supported, so if I gonna get a Linux phone I would go fairphone 6.

I’m disappointed: it doesn’t run off 18650 cells

Seriously though, thanks for putting this one on my radar. It looks really interesting. I’ll wait until it’s available for sale though: I lost a whole lot of money on crowdfunding once so I won’t get caught again.

I’ve been considering an FLX1 from furilabs, but it looks like it doesn’t have alt dp mode, which I really really want in a potential linux phone. I gather they’re making a dock which uses displaylink, but :grimacing:. And I’m in the US, so fairphone isn’t an easy option (our imported version seems weird).

In an interview it was explained that they chose RK3588 for the Liberux also because the MNT Reform Next will be shipping with it: Liberux Nexx: An interview with Liberux about their made-in-EU OSHW Linux Phone

That is great for them to mention MNT, definitely a project we should be in solidarity with.

NEXX are still intending to continue developing the project, here’s hoping for a successful relaunch.

Sorry, I’m sure you’re all well-meaning, but I’m going to close this thread because it’s making me uneasy: Using MNT community to coordinate/solicit influence on related to non-MNT projects, especially risky ones (crowdfunding with unclear track record).

This forum is for discussing MNT hardware and getting community support related to it.
