I am not very familiar with Linux and I installed Debian 12 and did an update. Now my pocket reform says a problem has occurred and cannot recover. Please contact a system admin. What can I do to fix?
Can you give more details explaining what happened?
What Debian 12 did you install and how?
Which component says that? Where do you see that error message?
I had Debian running fine for awhile now and did an update today. Everything was working until I reset my computer and on boot it goes to a white screen and says can’t recover. Is there a command I can use to get past it? Sorry for the little information, I don’t really have much experience with Linux.
Could you maybe take a photo of what you are seeing and post that here so that we can see what you see?
Can you try flashing a system image on sd-card and try booting from that? Does that work?
Don’t have another pc so unfortunately not.
Sounds to me like maybe some bootloader problems, but I’m still waiting for my pocket reform, so I’m not too familiar with the screen statuses.
You could also try booting from a live image and maybe repair stuff from there. Is there any nonrecoverable data on your Pocket Reform?
Cheers, Triss
No I have everything I need backed up except another disk image to reset from. Won’t make that mistake again. I will try and use live terminal thanks for advice.
I was able to get into my system thanks to another post. Thank you all for the help this has been extremely helpful. Now that I am in how can I remove the update? I tried to remove audio apt gnome and Debian but it says unable to locate package.
Great to hear that
I think it highly depends on what went wrong during the upgrade. Maybe it’s worth a try to re-apply the updates and see whether apt will fix things.
Did you manage to boot the installed system or did you use a live system?
And what Debian branch are you on?
Was able to boot the system and apt update. The second update fixed whatever was wrong. Again thank you all in this community because I really I thought bricked my pocket reform. I really do love this pocket reform and I’m having fun learning Linux. I’m using a Debian12 gui as it was easier to use than wayfire when I first started out.
Does this mean everything is okay again?
If you like, you can write us what the problem was and what exactly fixed it.
Also, you flagged your initial post. Was that intentional?
Every thing is good, after looking through another post I was able to get into sway and run another update that fixed the gnome shell. The post about rk3588 uart problems led me into the right direction and got me into sway. Some how on the most recent update whenever i started up it would white screen and say can’t recover . I flagged the post to have it deleted as the issue was resolved.
This sounds like the GDM (X11) crash screen which is white and has an unhappy computer icon I think.
