Pocket Reform USB-C question before purchase

There’s really only one thing I’m missing wrt the pocket reform, and that is video output, charging and data through a single usb-c cable. Both at work and at home I only have a single usb-c cable for connecting to the entire setup (display, keyboard, mic etc.), and I’d rather not sacrifice the ease of use when changing laptops.

Does this require a redesign of the pocket reform hardware, or are we just waiting on a software update for this to be enabled?

I think I asked the same question in IRC and the official response is yes, usb-c doesn’t support video output is a hardware limitation.

No, the Pocket Reform does not have displayport alt mode available on either external USB-C port, and it would be a hardware revision to add it. I’m figuring out my desktop setup currently, but I’m pretty sure I’m adding a KVM to switch between my work laptop dock and my pocket. My work laptop dock is thunderbolt 4 and is a single-cable setup. For the Pocket, I’ll have a USB-C for power, USB-C for keyboard, mouse, webcam, and audio, Micro HDMI for video, and ix for networking. It’s more annoying than one cable, but it’s all on one side of the laptop, so it’s relatively easy to arrange it nicely on the desk.

Micro-HDMI and one USB-C-Port with power, peripherals including a network adapter should also work (but might be a little bit slower than using the ix port for networking)
