Questions about MNT Station

Was looking over the campaign today and I have a few questions:

  1. From looking elsewhere it seems the Quasar board is the most powerful CPU in the MNT ecosystem? But then it’s not available as part of the MNT Station package. Is there a reason for that?
  2. The “Dual USB Type-C Kit” says USB2, I assume that means USB3 for type-c ports? Also… it’s not really mentioned and I can’t see it in the pictures, this board will fit inside the case and I guess there are optional slots for the ports or something?
  3. The description indicates that battery support is included with the MNT Station (I guess because the board was designed for the laptops) but then does one need to order the “MNT Reform Protected Battery Board (Pair)” item in order to actually use this functionality?

Hi!

  1. Good question. This is because we’re preparing the launch of Quasar on another mini campaign on Crowd Supply that is more specific for the Pocket Reform, but includes Quasar. So you’ll be able to order it later from that campaign if you like.
  2. No, it means USB 2.0 signals on USB-C. The USB 3.0 signals are already used up for the 3x USB-A ports. The main use case for these USB-C ports is DisplayPort (if supported by the processor module), which as an alternate mode uses the pins normally used for USB 3.0 in the USB-C connector. So these ports will either have USB 2.0 or USB 2.0 + DP.
  3. Yes, that’s right. The charger tech is on the mainboard, but you need the battery boards to actually mount some batteries. You’ll also need to print or cut out a base plate for mounting these battery boards safely. I’ll give some more details about this in a follow-up CS post.
