Hello @minute,
I received my RK3588 kit today, but I was unable to install it because the display cable in my Reform isn’t long enough to connect to the HDMI to eDP adapter as shown in the instructions. I’m wondering if the newer Reform revisions come with a longer display cable?
On mine, there’s not enough slack in the cable to even consider clearance around the adapter and the display pins on the motherboard. Even if I stretch it out completely taut for the shortest routing possible (which crosses over the pins, meaning I couldn’t plug it in like this anyway), it is short by a few mm. Here are some photos:
I considered that maybe there was some cable slack remaining in the upper portion of the case so I opened that up to check, but the cable is tight in there too:
Does MNT or some other online suppliers have a longer cable I could order to replace mine with, so I can install this adapter and get my RK3588 running?
I also had this problem when I went to install the CM4 module with HDMI adaptor.
The issue is that on my display the connector was on the side as in yours, while others (more recent?) displays the connector is in the middle. I resolved my problem by replacing the display (from a recycled thinkpad) with a connector in the middle. This makes the cable reach…
Before I found the display I did search for an extension cable for the display connector in the inside of the reform (to go between the hdmi adaptor and display cable) and that seemed to exist.
So far no issues. I did have some screen blinking where it would go black for a second and then come back, but it seems to be an issue with the long fpc between the module and the display connector. I followed advice from a ls2048 module post and applied some tape to the top side. Haven’t experienced any screen blinks since then so no damage to the display cable.
Ok, I tried the same thing and was able to get the adapter attached. The cable is pulled very tight and it makes me cringe though! In the process I knocked over my screw tray and lost two of my bottom panel screws, argh.
@pff, thanks for that link. It’s cheap enough that I think I will order one and try it out.
In other news, holy crap the 3588 is fast. My Reform is absolutely flying now, it’s awesome! For anyone who might still on the fence, I highly recommend this upgrade
Yeah its very sketch but it works. I think its definitely worth picking up that adapter to relieve strain. I am very excited about the speed of the rk3588!
