I think GDM3 got removed during an update a few weeks ago. After unencrypting the drive it boots normally but the screen goes blank after loading gdm.service.
I’ve been trying to connect to UART so I can reinstall gdm but cannot get it to work. Per manual I’m hooked up to S1 (the 3 pins closer to the sysctl header I think) and set baud rate to 1500000 but screen is blank. I’ve tried tio, screen, putty and ftdi and pl2303 based uart cables but still nothing. I’ve tried swapping cables around and tried S2 and different baud rates
I swear this worked for me no problem on the a311d board on the pocket reform but its been a while.
I cannot help you with Pocket-specific input but on classic Reform you can switch to a different tty by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 or CTRL+ALT+F2 and so on to switch to tty1 and tty2 and the others, respectively. So if your gdm stopped working, you might be able to switch to a different tty than the one gdm tried to start on, log into your system there and then do whatever is needed to restore your setup.
Thanks I always forget about that and it did the trick with a few caveats that were making troubleshooting more difficult.
hyper + 1-0 and q or w should be f1-f12 but using the internal keyboard ctrl+alt+hyper+number does not switch between tty sessions. Plugging in an external keyboard worked. No that I’m booted I can user ctrl+alt+hyper+number to switch to a new tty session but can’t switch again once in the new tty session without plugging in an external keyboard.
I still had no output on internal display on other tty sessions but plugging into external monitor i did have display. The default tty session had the normal gnome white screen telling you to contact sys admin other sessions were basic terminals as expected. Now that i reinstalled gdm3 and updated other tty sessions show up on internal display.
All that said I would still like to figure out how to get the serial console going on the rk3588.
