Seemingly random booting when charging

Since executing this procedure in order to recover from a failed firmware update, my Pocket sometimes boots on its own when power is connect or disconnected and sometimes also just while charging.

This morning I unplugged from the charger that I had it on over night, put it in my bag and when I arrived at uni, the device was running hot and the battery was down to 65% because it had booted after unplugging which I didn’t notice.

Now I have to check all the time if the device is actually off which is quite cumbersome.

Also, sometimes when shuttting down, the device just reboots instead. Not sure if this is related too.

Ah, you’re probably still running my “factory” firmware for the system controller that can turn on automatically on USB-C PD power, and also it might have a bit too tight watchdog timeout (1 second) that can reset the device.

If you update the system controller fw (not keyboard, it’s fine now) back to the latest regular version, it should be OK again. https://source.mnt.re appears to be down at the moment though and I’ve got to run to a concert.

OK, it’s back up, and the system controller update command here applies: Releases · Reform / MNT Pocket Reform · GitLab

I’ll also push that version (build 11420 / 20250623) to LVFS/fwupd tomorrow if you’d prefer using that (or gnome-firmware).

yes, that was it. thanks. I hadn’t thought of the system controller firmware again since the problem there was the keyboard controller.
