For those of us unfortunate enough to live in the US, 20% tariffs on EU products will be coming into effect April 9. My understanding is that items shipped (but not ordered) before the start date will not be subject to the tariffs. Is there any hope of some US orders shipping this week? Also, does anyone know how the tariff payments will work? (When, where, and how to pay?)
i heard about this… its very dumb. And yes I am also unfortunate enough to be in same position. But if anyone in usa desires a pocket mnt reform, I already have one and plan to sell it soon. In case that is what you want to buy.
I read some more about it and it looks like orders valued at or under $800 are still under de minimis exemption (unless it comes from China) until “systems are ready” to remove that exemption at some unspecified future date. So if your order falls under that threshold or can be split into smaller shipments, then the deadline may be a little further out.
Edit: tagging @minute on this
Considering how terribly the stock market is crashing, and how much back and forth there was on the previous tariffs, there is at least some hope that these won’t stick.
But I ordered my stuff back in January with the assumption I’d get affected by whatever harebrained thing the regime came up with, so I’m willing to eat the costs when they get straightened out.
I’m sure it’ll be days, if not weeks, before anybody knows anything for sure.
One more update, it sounds like semiconductors may not be affected. So maybe this is not an issue for MNT orders after all? Everything is still unclear at the moment and I imagine there will be changes over the coming days given how chaotic everything is.
