This afternoon, I tried connecting my camera to my laptop as I usually do to transfer images and charge it up at the same time, and… nothing.
I tried a mouse. I tried a NFC reader… nothing. No power, no data. But I have a BT500 Bluetooth dongle that does seem to be recognized: the kernel tries to load something or other into it, then it fails, disconnect, reconnect, rinse, repeat.
The BT dongle is the only thing I have that seems to do something with the port, so it’s not completely dead. But nothing else does anything anymore. Wiggling the plug or inserting it slowly, or sideways, doesn’t change anything.
I figured maybe something had gone wrong with a kernel update, so I upgraded again today, to no avail.
It’s the USB-A port on the right-hand side closest to the front of the machine. It’s never been physically abused in any way, so I’m not sure what happened.
Sorry for the super late reply. Did you ever open a support request for this? This issue seems really weird I would like to help figure out whats going on. I saw you had some other issues with your display coming up black before as well. Could you send a message here https://support.mnt.re
Sorry I’ve been swamped with work and haven’t had time to deal with this.
I suspect the socket itself is broken - either a tab inside of maybe a solder joint. I was hoping to take the machine apart and inspect the port, but I just haven’t had time.
I haven’t opened a support request because I was hoping to fix it myself, and also because if I have to send the machine back to Germany for servicing, it’ll take weeks and I need it to work.
It still happens - just this morning in fact: I turn the machine on and nothing happens. I just turn it off and back on, and then it boots. It does that maybe 1 out of 50 power-ups. Not a big deal.
