Wifi range issue

Ok, any ideas how adding those two external antennas could have burned your RTC out? I’m a loss. Are there wires or metal bits that are concealed so as to protect from shorts and grounding?

Either way, the new antennas look awesome!

The solution was to replace the clock’s coin cell battery.

While plugging in one of the antennae I dropped the wire, and I think the connector shorted something on the mainboard. Aside from the connectors, the antennae wires are insulated. They’re mounted directly into the aluminum side plates I had cut.

As @minute said, the clock battery had discharged, and when I replaced it, my RTC appeared on the next boot and is working normally now.

Seriously glorious modification. Are you worried about the antennas snagging on anything in transit?

It goes in a bag where it sits horizontally. If I get worried I can just unscrew the antennae from the threaded mounts…

Your tarball is 404ing. Can you reupload it somewhere? I’m interested in replicating your design.

Whoops! Thanks for letting me know. It’s back up now.
