Advice: Pocket Reform Not Working, How to Rehome

Got my pocket reform many months ago, original backer on Crowd Supply, but the use case I ordered it for has passed, and I ended up basically booting it up once, checking it out, then it collected dust. A few weeks ago I went to boot it up again to probably list on ebay or something but now its not turning on at all. Plugged in to charge for many hours, no change. Keyboard osd is not turning on either. I need to take it apart to know for sure, but I think its related to the charge controller getting fried (read about that or something similar happening to some reforms) because I’m just getting nothing from my device.

Anyway, I just dont have the bandwidth to fix it, or send it in for repairs (is this even a thing?), get it back and list it and whatever else it may need, basically just wondering what I can do. Ideally I’d like to recoup some of the cost, but also, if someone has the time and will use it, its just money at the end of the day, and computers are awesome, so I can give somebody a cool (albeit currently broken) hackable totally open device.

Thoughts? Is this even appropriate for the forum? If this doesnt belong here, mods feel free to remove this post. Sorry I’m coming to you all with my life problems here that are mostly non technical, but I thought I’d ask before acting rashly and just dumping it…

This is absolutely the right place to ask! Thank you for reaching out!

You can go to https://support.mnt.re/ to get step-by-step instructions of how to figure out what is wrong with your Pocket. You first answer “Pocket Reform doesn’t turn on” and then the answer to the second question might be “The OLED stays blank.” The first advice then is to toggle the standby switch. Does toggling the switch to off and then back on help?

If not, bridging pins 2&3 of J1 as the guide suggests lets you check what is wrong with your Pocket without the charging board in the loop. I also wrote about this here: Running the Pocket without batteries (bypassing a broken charging board)

Let us know how it goes!

P.S.: If you want to sell your unit, this forum is also one of the places to do so.

Hi! Longtime lurker and computer enthusiast here. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a reform for a while, but haven’t been able to justify spending the money… But I do have a lot of time at the moment! If you’re still looking to part with yours, please reach out, and we could potentially figure something out!
