Can't flash Keyboard Controller

Hello together!

I tried to update the FW of my MNT Pocket Reform via fwupdmgr update. After that the keyboard stopped working. I also couldn’t start the pocket at all with the keyboard. The OLED does not show anything.

I opened up the pocket and I could flash the recovery system controller FW, so that the board starts up without internal keyboard (with an external keyboard). Then I could boot up the system and with the system running I tried to flash the keyboard controller with pressing the keyboard prog button while pressing reset on the keyboard pcb. But it seems there is no USB device showing up. So I can’t flash the keyboard controller at all.

Is there any way else to flash the keyboard controller? Or any way to diagnose my issue with the keyboard?

I believe you want to press and let go of reset while holding prog (not the other way around as maybe you suggested).

I think the important part is to release reset before releasing prog.

Ok, maybe describing the way I tried to reach the programming mode was misleading. I did use the way you described it, press+hold the prog btn, then press the reset btn and release the prog btn afterwards.

I sadly can’t reach the programming mode of the keyboard controller…

I see, maybe worth checking this thread for suggestions:

@pff Thanks for the similar thread. It help in that sense, that I played around with the keys. What didn’t work at all was the reset+prog btn sequence. It was impossible to get the keyboard controller into flashing mode.

But what in the end worked for me: I turned off the pocket reform with the switch, hold down the keyboard prog btn and turned it on with the switch, releasing the prog btn afterwards, then after reaching usable userspace, the keyboard controller still was in flashing mode and I could flash the keyboard with the script ./update-keyboard-firmware.sh.

Thanks for the support!
