Power issues and a popped charger board

Though I didn’t realize it until later, my Pocket was not shutting down properly (similar to the issues in this thread) after a fresh install.

A few days ago, upon reaching ~30% battery, the battery voltages dropped to around 3.0 and the device shut off, then turned itself back on repeatedly. (Similar but different behavior to this thread]

This was fixed temporarily by charging the device to full.

My suspicion was that there was an issue with a battery as the voltage should not be fluctuating this much. I ordered some replacements.

However, upon plugging the device in today, I heard a pop and smelled some magic smoke.

Sure enough, the MPSN08 chip on the charging board has blown.

The charger I’ve been using is rated at 65W and I’ve not been able to find any limitations as far as input goes.

I’m travelling but when I return home I will try the jumping tutorial laid out here, but until then I would love any advice or suggestions.

I haven’t been able to find the right vendor for the charging board. If anyone has a recommendation, please let me know.

You don’t. You either write to support@mntre.com directly or you click through the step-by-step instructions (with photos) here to get to a form which allows you to do so in a structured way: https://support.mnt.re/

If your charging board breaks you will get a replacement shipped to you because you are still under warranty. You don’t buy a new one.

Since your charging board is very obviously broken, the temporary workaround is to bridge pins 2 and 3. As far as I know, there is no other workaround until you get a replacement charging board.

Thanks a million, I’ll do both of these things

FYI @josch support@mntre.com is currently offline/will bounce. https://support.mnt.re is the way.
