Evening all,
It’s certainly been a while since I last had a look around here - following a change of workplace the idealised use case for my Pocket unfortunately didn’t come to pass (can’t connect personal devices to corporate assets, even for serial console work) but I’ve dusted off the cobwebs and fired it back up this week for some tinkering in my off time.
I completed the recent firmware updates (up to 20260819) ahead of a reimage (I was still on the (pre-GNOME, I think?) 2024 system image) and since then have been faced with an inactive display at (what would be) the LUKS prompt at boot. Entering the passphrase blind continues the boot process and brings the display to life, but no matter what I do I can’t get the pre-decryption prompt to display even after installing the latest system image afresh. It’s not a blank display - the panel itself doesn’t illuminate whatsoever.

(My unit is bone stock - v1 display etc. MNT unstable LUKS install on NVMe. Disregard the failed attempts to check the bootloader version; my ISP doesn’t seem to like source.mnt.re for some strange reason. It succeeds at work!)
I’m aware of various post-update display issue topics already on the forum, but as far as I can tell none of them are specific to the LUKS prompt; I have no problems once booted up aside from the occasional flicker on screen wakes ( maybe the issue Lucie drafted a fix for described here?) Do correct me if this would be better as a reply to one of the existing conversations!
The upcoming Quasar does look quite appealing given how anemic the i.MX8MQ has been for me - even before GNOME, multitasking under sway was something of a pain - so I’d love to figure this out before committing to one. I’ve got a list of other remedial things to look at (replacing my original backplate with the WiFi-friendly version, figuring out why GNOME won’t let me change my user avatar, maybe adding a more convenient physical switch to prevent power loss overnight) but as this is the first step in the chain I thought I’d tackle it first!
